Claremont Country Club


The Claremont Country Club is an early 20th century Tudor style club house and is an historical landmark in Oakland, California.   The project involved additions to the main building, interior renovations, and designing a new, one-acre Aquatic Center.  The challenge was to seamlessly integrate modern-day needs and code requirements with the authentic old-world feel of a gracious estate house from a bygone era.
The Aquatic Center added a new pool, landscaping, and an 8,000 square foot pool house.
Colorful flags with old-time coats of arms decorate the rear wooden balconies of the country club, whose ivy-covered, half-timbered exterior recalls the great Tudor estates and outdoor sport traditions of England.
Even small details such as the metal downspouts and exterior light designs bring a great deal of character to the country club as a whole.
These hefty timber details give great solidity to the design of the new Aquatic Center building, and are firm in recalling an equestrian, wooden barn-like tradition.
The Aquatic Center's pool house design echoes an equestrian tradition in its splendid display of half-timbering and wooden barn door detailing.
Blending both traditional and modern detailing, this simple wood plank door surrounded by glazing marks one of the entrances to the country club's new Aquatic Center.
Large amounts of glazing and simple, clean interior detailing give the new Women's Lounge a slightly more modern feel, while choice details such as the large wrought iron chandeliers add their old-world charm.
Another view of the new Women's Lounge offers a sense of tranquility and repose from the day's activities at the country club.
Grill Room
A beautiful, full green tree frames the peaceful main entrance to the country club, which is graced by a wooden balustrade and brick steps that cascade down to the main walkway.
The brick-paved patio with its meandering pathway, as well as the imposing half-timbered tower element, are features of variety and interest in the rear elevation of the country club.
