Spanish Colonial Hacienda


The design is modeled after an historic Spanish Colonial hacienda ranch on an old land grant along the central California coast. The home is grounded by a central gabled room, with dining and bedroom wings flanking the central space, forming the traditional courtyards of the hacienda.  A guest wing steps up the hill in response to the topography of the site, with interior access via an arched bridge which connects the saddle to the hillside.

The Great Room unites the pool and bedroom courts with the spacious kitchen.
The heart of the home is a gabled living room, warmed by the sun that streams in through dramatic clerestory windows and discrete skylights.
A winding stair climbs under a circular tower to the upper private bedrooms of the home.
The domed, circular stair tower is pierced by a ring of attic windows.

The master bath fixtures are set in warm Calacatta marble counters.
The stained Douglas fir posts and beams of this bunk room enclose private cubbies for sleeping and reading.
The residence is sited on the saddle of the rolling coastal landscape, adjacent to a heritage live oak tree.
A Tuscan clay-tile roofed gate set in a rough-laid wall of of Carmel stone opens to an entry court with a central fountain surrounded by fragrant citrus trees and herbs.
